On June 4, IE Talent & Careers hosted the Big Data Talent Forum. Not only Tech companies came to IE to present the students their corporate culture and their job offerings, but also well-known business players such as Deloitte or BBVA were present. In total, 13 different companies from various industries participated.
Many IE students from the master programs of Big Data and Business Analytics, as well as Cyber Security, visited the Launch Pad to talk to company representatives. In addition, some students from other programs such as the Master in Management and MBA took the opportunity to learn more about Big Data, its job opportunities and talk to various companies. Consequently, the Launch Pad filled up quickly and was constantly busy between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Spain’s second largest bank, BBVA, gave students the opportunity to fill in their application right away at the Talent Forum. The company has its own Young Professionals Data Program. This full-time employment provides not only the possibility to work for a globally acting bank but also contains training and development offers for their participants. BBVA is looking for soon or recent graduates that want to be part of the BBVA’s transformation to achieve their goal to become a data driven bank.
Another example for cross-industry usage of Big Data is KPMG. The Big Four company uses Big Data and Data Analytics in their IT and data science departments. The representatives reported that one major application field is within their advisory and consulting projects focusing on banking regulation. Increasing European regulation for banks does not only increase reporting standards and efforts but also provides opportunities for optimization based on data driven approaches. Thus employees have not only the possibility to become functional experts but also gain experiences across industries due to various projects.
Besides big multinational companies such as Google, EY, and SAP more focused and specialized firms like Sanitas, a health insurance provider, or Kernel analytics were part of the IE Big Data Talent Forum. These forums are highly popular among students because it gives them the opportunity not only to learn more about different companies but also to connect directly with recruiters.
