Bodo studied Health Economics, Hospital Management and Medicine Controlling in Hochschule Niederrhein, Germany from 2005 to 2009. The combination between his studies and the experience he gained throughout his career made him an expert in the Healthcare field.
He has been working for the sector for more than ten years along with cross-cultural teams in Germany, Australia, USA and Brazil, leading health projects and always focused on the innovation of the Health field.
In 2014, he developed a mobile app called iHealth4me, which main goal was to provide users with the necessary tools to execute a successful personal health strategy.
In 2015, he joined Philips Brazil and since then he has been working in different departments within the company, all of them related to the sector and its improvement.
Since we are always interested in the career path both our students and alumni follow, we contacted Bodo to know about his professional development and this is what he told us:
Q: Could you please let us know your job title, the date when you started working at Philips and the city where you are based at?
A: I hold the role of Senior Market Access Manager and I am based out of the Philips HQ in Amsterdam. In August 2017, I was promoted and relocated from São Paulo, Brazil to Amsterdam, Netherlands. I started working for Philips Brazil in 2015, in the Consulting division.
Q: Can you please tell us briefly what your previous job was about? Did you make a significant career change on any of those functions, company, industry or location?
A: I was working already at Philips as Business Development Manager, specifically in Philips Research Brazil. My new role as Senior Manager allows me to work with other corporate functions such as Clinical Leadership, Strategy and M&A.
Q: Can you please tell us briefly about your new job (functions/company/industry)?
A: I work as a dedicated Business Partner for specific Businesses within the company. I am mainly responsible for driving the integration of health economics and market access into the value proposition creation and evidence development plans for Philips Business Groups and Integrated Solutions
Q: Has your personal career strategy always been focused on this job? How does this new job fit into your career strategy?
A: It fits actually very well as it was always my goal to work once in Philips HQ in Amsterdam holding a strategic, innovative but also a clinical role. I expect to have a long-term career within Philips and believe that this experience will give me the opportunity to grow in the company.

Q: How did you find out about this job opportunity?
A: I was asked by a colleague during a visit in the Netherlands to apply for the position. Her pitch was: “You are German, you are studying in Madrid, you are an expert in European market – why don’t you come to Amsterdam? Consider it…”
Q: How did Talent & Careers and your IE experience help you during the recruiting process? Did you use specific career resources or did you come across useful information via an Advisor or Alumni?
A: My visit in the Netherlands was exactly before my first F2F week at IE. Lorena Martinez was great – she helped me with the whole relocation process/package, negotiation, further development plan and overall preparation for the recruitment process.
Q: How was the recruiting process: stages, tests, interviews, etc.?
A: As I was already inside the company, I did not have as many stages. Nevertheless, I had two initial interviews plus three business interviews with some of my current stakeholders. Overall five interviews.
Q: Would you want to share any tips or advice with students interested in applying to Philips? To your job position in particular?
A: Be yourself and focus on the strength that you have. If the interviewer sees your passion – he/she will believe in your honest interest on the position.
