How did you find out about this job opportunity?
I got to know about this job opportunity through networking. Initially I heard that Google was hiring for various positions but I was not sure that my profile matched any of them. Relying on personal experience, a fellow classmate advised me on the one that could be a good fit. After gathering some additional information on the company and position, I applied and was contacted by recruiter within the next few days.
How did the CMC and your IE experience help you during the recruiting process?
CMC was helpful by providing industry related events or company presentations so I could get an overview of industries I had never worked in. Sometimes I also asked CMC advisors for their opinion on job opportunities I was looking at, so I could get additional perspective on what to prepare myself for.
How was the recruiting process: stages, tests, interviews, etc?
The whole process took me around 6 weeks. It consisted of 4 stages:
- CV screening
- Phone interview with HR
- Phone interview with Googler
- On-site (or in my case VC interview) with various interviewers testing different sets of skills
Would you want to share any tips, advice with current student interested in applying to Google?
Make sure you are really good fit not just for a chosen company, but for the particular position as well. Prepare very well for each interview. Get to know more about products you are going to work with. Be prepared to answer scenario based questions and don’t be afraid to take a couple minutes to structure your answer very well. Finally, just be authentic and rely on your strengths!
