Cindy Liang, International MBA 2016 Alumni, tells us about being selected as Global Social Media Manager for Dufry.
How did you find out about this job opportunity?
I found out about the position through the IE Career Portal. However, the recruiter had previously asked the Career Management Center to shortlist candidates with relevant digital and e-commerce experience among other requirements (my CV was not included). Luckily, I decided to look on the IE Career Portal for job opportunities, found and applied for the position, and was selected for an interview.
How did the CMC and your IE experience help you during the recruiting process?
Being at IE, it opened me up to more international job opportunities that I wouldn’t otherwise have known about and having access to amazing professors who gave me good career guidance.
How was the recruiting process: stages, tests, interviews, etc?
The recruiting process was very fast because I had applied at the last minute. I was called to discuss the position on the same day I applied (around 9:30pm) and was asked to go in for the interview the following day at noon so I had very little time to prepare for the interview. I had the interview at noon with the Global Head and then was asked to come back the same day for a follow up interview with the Marketing Director. Then HR had reached out to me during Spring Break for some follow up questions about why I wanted to work for Dufry. After that, I received a call and was offered the position.
Would you want to share any tips, advice with current student interested in applying to this company?
I would say to be flexible to working part-time during electives if this is a position that you really want to show that you are willing to do whatever it takes for the position.
