Marina Escolano, International MBA 2015 Alumni, currently Social Media Manager at Massimo Dutti.
How did you find out about this job opportunity?
I attended a speed networking event held by Massimo Dutti at IE.
How did the CMC and your IE experience help you during the recruiting process?
My recently acquired at IE business background and my previous experience on Social Media made me an interesting candidate because it is usually a rare combination of skills. I had deeply curated my CV adapting it to the retail industry and I did my research on Massimo Dutti and Inditex, so I already knew about the different positions they offered and how the company is structured. I am also an eager Inditex consumer so when they asked me about the stores, materials and fashion in general, I showed how passionate I was about the topic and how I naturally knew about their brand’s strategy from a consumer’s perspective.
How was the recruiting process: stages, tests, interviews, etc?
It consisted on two interviews right at the speed networking event at IE with two different recruiters, then another Skype interview with the HR Global Manager and the Marketing manager. After those three interviews, I flew to Barcelona to have four face to face interviews with the HR, Marketing, E-commerce and General Management divisions (including the CEO himself!) and finally I had to present an in-depth consulting report. The whole process took around two months. I got asked about recommendations and professional opinions on their performance on Social Media, suggest new ideas, identify their competitors, show my knowledge on fashion and in new upcoming Internet trends.
Would you want to share any tips, advice with current student interested in applying to this company?
I would suggest that you do some research before the interviews. Be ready to give some recommendations and potential improvements in the area you are interviewing from. They will be looking for specific numbers, changes, companies to look at and strategies. They assume you will know everything about the brand during the interview so be prepared to give them some facts. Bring questions and stay humble. I would also suggest that you have a deep understanding of the brand from a customer’s perspective before hand: how do they display their product, who is their target, who do you think is their competition, where are they heading, how is their communication… Also showing passion and understanding of the industry. Besides that, smile, be bold and be concise.
