Chantal Azzi, Master in Management 2015 Alumni, currently Support Specialist, gtech Ads Team at Google tells how she managed to enter this leading global company.
How did you find out about this job opportunity?
In the beginning of our International Business specialization period, one of my colleagues who worked as a Career Management Center Ambassador informed us of openings in the gTech Ads Global Support Team. Since Google was my dream company, I decided to grab this opportunity and apply for the position in line with my profile and future aspirations.
How did the CMC and your IE experience help you during the recruiting process?
The CMC team provided me as well as my colleagues with continuous support and follow up be it through tailored one-on-one advising sessions, workshops, multinational and local companies’ visits on campus and fairs among other networking events all year long ultimately ensuring that each of us has a clearer idea of his/her future career goals and how to reach them. Most importantly, this team was my point of contact with Google.
As for my IE experience, I would sum it up by saying “I will be forever grateful for the many lessons I learned during this journey”. I would primarily highlight the importance of sharing such an experience with a mosaic of colleagues from around 56 nationalities. Interacting with these friends coming from all walks of life allowed me to strengthen my communication skills while learning about the different areas of interest each of them had. Moreover, the modules and courses taken during this period allowed me to expand and deepen my knowledge of many subjects further developing my managerial skills and boosting my confidence during the recruitment process.
An important part of my IE journey was the Global Immersion Week (GIW). After being shortlisted to attend the San Francisco GIW, we visited several start-ups and global technology companies Google being one of them. I remember thanking Ricardo Perez upon reaching Google offices for bringing me to my dream company. This week was a lifetime opportunity during which I networked with employees, managers, CEOs and professors who shared their journeys and wisdom with us.
In a nutshell, the CMC, program management, my professors and my colleagues made this journey even more fruitful each adding a special “flavor” to this experience. This combination made me more confident that joining a multinational tech company which differentiates itself through continuous innovation is where I wanted to be.
How was the recruiting process: stages, tests, interviews, etc?
In the beginning of the recruiting process, I had a first phone interview with a recruitment specialist who further explained to me the position. This was followed by a second phone screen which consists of a conversation with a support specialist. After successfully passing this interview, I was progressed to onsite interviews in Wroclaw, Poland. I had three interviews on the same day with team leads and a support specialist.
Would you want to share any tips, advice with current student interested in applying to this company?
One thing to keep in mind is to always stay humble and transparent because it is greatly valued.
Be smart when promoting your profile; show what you can bring to the table that would make them want you as part of their team.
Clearly reflect what you believe you will be learning by joining Google and more specifically working in this position.
Never let one answer to a problem satisfies you; rethink the problem only this time outside the box.
Never lose motivation at any stage of the recruiting process and most importantly SMILE!
