Martinho Soto, International MBA 2015 Alumni, currently Brand Manager at Eli Lilly.
How did you find out about this job opportunity?
Through the IE Career Portal, I saw a job posting for a Brand Manager at Lilly back in September; I think it was my second application through the Career Portal.
How did the CMC and your IE experience help you during the recruiting process?
During the recruiting process I had several doubts and both Ana Olaguibel and Lorena Martinez gave me wise advice and support. And also during the whole IE experience all the courses and workshops had been preparing me for that moment, to know myself better and be able to transmit your strengths in an interview, to stay calm in the tough questions and to empathize with your interviewer.
How was the recruiting process: stages, tests, interviews, etc?
They called me for an interview just one month after I applied, I had two interviews at their office in Alcobendas, one of them with the head of HR, at that moment they didn’t have an open position, they just wanted to know some of the future IMBA graduates, and I know they interview several people from IE.
Just three weeks later they called me for another round of interviews, now they had an open position as brand manager, I met one person form HR and five Business Unit Director´s. All six were very nice and asked me questions about myself, what did I know about Lilly, why did I want to work there etc. At this stage they were also two other candidates.
Another three weeks later I had the two last interviews, one with a future colleague and one my future direct boss.
Two weeks afterward they made me an offer, and I’m starting to work just four days after I finish the IMBA.
Would you want to share any tips, advice with current student interested in applying to this company?
All the interviews were relaxed and they just wanted to know me better; they were no technical questions or tests. But they also asked what I knew about the company or the healthcare sector. If you have an interview, try to look up the values and vision of Lilly and what are their main products, be yourself, show interest and keep cool because they have a really good work ambience.
