Daniele Meoni, Master in Management 2014 Alumni, tells us about his experience with this firm.
How did you find out about this job opportunity?
I found out about Hilti thanks to an email from Margarida Constantino (Career Management Center – CMC) inviting all of us MIM future graduates to consider applying to the exciting, fast track graduate program. This happened in July 2014.
However, the event that made me take the decision to gather further information and apply to the graduate program was Hilti’s company presentation that took place at IE during September 2014 (also organized by CMC). The key points that drove my decision were the brilliant, positive Company outlook and how the speakers depicted the company’s environment: young, international, results driven, supportive and open.
How did the CMC and your IE experience help you during the recruiting process?
The CMC helped me a lot, especially during the early stages of the recruiting process. In particular, Margarida guided me in finding meaningful information about the company and the aspects Hilti value the most in candidates.
Of course also my IE experience was crucial in succeeding throughout the recruiting process. Specifically, IE has given me a great deal of confidence in public speaking and a good ability in team working. Also, a solid preparation upon business cases was fundamental during the first stage assessment.
How was the recruiting process: stages, tests, interviews, etc?
I made my application in December 2014 and I was contacted by Hilti at the beginning of January. The first step of the process is a phone interview with the HR department: basically a behavioural-type interview, where the most important things to show are your previous experiences and your genuine motivation in joining Hilti.
After the phone interview, I was called to attend an assessment in Milan, which took place in early February. The assessment consisted of group activities and business cases discussions. After that, there was a screening, and those among us who passed it had a 2 on 1 interview with a manager from the HR and a member from another corporate department.
Then I spent an entire working day with an account manager (and I really loved it!), to better understand what my first assignment in sales would have looked like. After that, I had a final interview with a Sales Director and 3 Area Sales Managers.
Would you want to share any tips, advice with current student interested in applying to this company?
Of course. I believe the best advice I can give to my colleagues is to extensively research about the company and, most of all, understand the business model and the culture. What Hilti values the most in candidates is their set of soft skills and their affinity with Hilti’s culture. Also, given the fact that the first assignment will be in the sales area, you have to be curious and truly interested in this kind of business experience.
